It hasn’t always been like this for me. Instinctive fine dining from everyday foods.
I had an inclination towards processed and fast foods; particularly burger restaurants, in my youth. Now in my wiser years, I have developed a talent for delighting those who I feed, including myself. I just love being able to produce amazing gourmet delights from the contents of my fridge and larders on a whim.
I guess this culinary talent arises out of my innate interest in food and nutrition from a young age. In a working class home where my mother was very talented at home making in the interior design sense but really rather disinterested when it came to family dining, I picked up the reins in the kitchen and from around 11 I became the primary chef.
After my school day I would head straight to my mother’s place of work to pick up some cash and then on to the supermarket to see what I could pick up for the family meal. This may have only been some cold meat which I would put together with some vegetables (usually frozen) for whoever was home to dine that evening. On Sundays though, I had great fun in the kitchen preparing Sunday lunch. I even started to debone the chicken and make a curry using various spices. I recall its uncomplicated yet delicious taste still today.
I often find myself thinking how I might share my wisdom of how I have learned to make the most of what my fridges and larders have to offer me, and that is what I hope to do with my blog. I will share my story with you, which I hope you enjoy along the way. Better still, I would love to think that reading my blog helped your instincts towards making the most of what your fridge and larder can offer you.
